Take interesting courses from this world-famous university, virtually or at Berkeley in the future, and experience…
the brilliance that so many Norwegians are talking about.
Are you interested in taking courses from the innovative and world-famous UC Berkeley, a leader among top-ranked universities? Interested in an excellent opportunity to earn a certificate in a study area you are interested in?
Over the last 15 years approximately 2700 young Norwegians, plus thousands more around the world, have taken advantage of the excellent opportunity that studying abroad at Berkeley provides through the Berkeley International Study Program (BISP). Currently the program is offered virtually in Spring 2021 from the comforts of home, and hopefully back in person for Fall 2021.
BISP was founded by Sir Trond Petersen, knighted by the King of Norway, a Norwegian native and a Professor at UC Berkeley. This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students from over 18 universities in Norway, and to independent students not enrolled in a university right now, who may wish to pursue academic studies abroad during a gap year or after their bachelor’s studies. BISP invites you to take courses for one or two semesters; to earn UC Berkeley credit to transfer to your university and university applications; perhaps earn a BISP Certificate in exciting fields such as Global Economies and Entrepreneurship, Politics, Health, Inequalities, Education, Language and Culture with courses in many different subjects; make new friends from California and around the world; engage with amazing scholars; and immerse yourself in different cultures through exciting classes and activities.
“You learn that we are all humans….[instead of being] just a Norwegian going to another world, you’re like a Norwegian turning into a global citizen..I have been exposed to a different culture, developed my English skills…and also developed myself personally in ways I did not expect before departure. I have learned a lot about what really matters in life and gotten to know a whole bunch of new people and cultural traits and differences. I am extremely grateful that I have been given this opportunity. It’s been a unique experience, and I have made friends for life.” Aron Furuhaug, Sociology major, NTNU
If BISP sounds like something you’d like to experience, and perhaps earn a BISP Certificate or courses to transfer, email bisp@berkeley.edu to talk to its friendly advisors or go to the BISP website for more information on how to apply. But hurry – the application deadline for Spring 2021 has passed, but contact us immediately and we may be able to get you in by exception. Autumn 2021 students should inquire at their university by early January as most have deadlines at the end of January to mid-February. Independent and gap year students not in a university should inquire directly with BISP.
