UAL is made up of six unique Colleges, each with a history dating back to the 19th or early 20th century: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Arts. Each College has their own unique identity, which means you can choose the one that best suits your talents, interests and ambitions.
Our alumni can be found in every part of the creative and cultural sectors, from heads of global businesses to self-employed practitioners, and on shortlists for awards ranging from the Turner Prize to the Oscars.
STUDENT LIFE
We are an internationally diverse student community. UAL is home to almost 19,000 students from over 130 countries. At UAL you can expand your horizons, be inspired by new ideas and collaborate with people from different cultures.
Håkon Lillegraven is studying a BA (Hons) Culture, Criticism and Curation at Central Saint Martins. Originally from Trondheim in Norway, Håkon chose to study at UAL because he was attracted to the prospect of studying an academic course in an arts college environment, with the potential for interdisciplinary exchange.
Håkon says the best aspects of studying at UAL are the facilities, variety and London location. “Your education never stops. Whether you consciously seek out art and happenings, or you just walk down the street, London is increasing your awareness of yourself and your practice.”
One of the highlights of Håkon’s course so far has been the opportunity to work with students of different courses and backgrounds. “I was involved in a student radio project with students from other year groups and this really opened up a lot of conversations, relationships and opportunities!”
Henrik Bie from Stavanger in Norway, is studying a MA Television at London College of Communication. After his undergraduate study in public relations, Henrik decided he wanted to work in television – and London was the ideal location.
“I wanted to experience an MA, to work with other people who want the same career as me. I chose to study at UAL because of its well-known reputation and the experience of my course leader. UAL’s London location is very convenient when studying television. With the possibilities London offers, you have the opportunity to meet so many people in the field.”
Henrik’s advice to anyone thinking about studying at UAL is to go for it. “UAL is such a good university both socially and academically. It is a university where you can express yourself in a creative way.”
